天領の町「倉敷」その4 美観地区

翌朝、倉敷を発つ前に美観地区を散歩してきました。早朝の（といっても9時くらいでしたが・・・）倉敷は、美術館もお店も開店前ということもあってか、観光客の姿はまばらです。静かな「美観地区」の風情を楽しめます。倉敷は、やはり、宿泊したほうがより良さを堪能できる町でした。




4/6には、オリンピックで銅メダルを獲得した「高橋大輔」選手のパレードが行われるとのこと。彼は、ここ倉敷の出身だそうです。後日、沿道に溢れた人々の映像がＴＶでも放映されていました。

倉敷川に集う鳥たちも観光客慣れしているのか、おちゃめな行動で楽しませてくれます。






倉敷川のお船にも乗って川面から眺める街並みもいいかもしれませんね。


旧大原邸。


大原邸のお隣の「有隣荘」、別名「緑御殿」。ここも大原家の別荘とのこと。まさに豪商の家らしく屋根瓦が優美でした。









天領の地は概して、もともと豊かな地の上に、模範的な政治が行われていた地ということもあり、商品経済が発達したり、百姓屋敷も立派な場合が多いらしい。豪商や豪農の地だけに建造物も堅牢で価値の高いものが多くなり、今に至っても保存されてきた経緯があるように思います。そんな地だから、今でも、当時の面影を訪ねることができるわけですね。
以前訪れた「九州　大分の日田」も天領の地。昔の街並みが残されていました。
